What is the difference between lead and lead-free aprons?
Both protect staff from scatter radiation. Lead-free and lightweight composite aprons are designed to reduce weight for staff who wear protection for long periods, while traditional lead aprons are a durable, cost-effective choice.
Which lead equivalence do I need?
Aprons are commonly offered in 0.25 mm, 0.35 mm and 0.5 mm lead equivalence. The right choice depends on the procedure, your facility policy and state requirements; your radiation safety officer or physicist can advise.
